Attainability in U.S. Housing Roadmap Coming December 2019

At the Alliance, we’re exploring what the future home delivery company will look like, sharing innovation that’s currently happening in and around the industry, and providing tools you can use to drive innovation in your own business. As our community, you help drive the agenda—the topics we dig into, the conversations we have and the resources we create.

Over the past few months, we’ve shared a number of resources exploring the use of BIM in a production housing environment. All of this information is building into a first draft Roadmap, which will be available in November, and there’s a special area in the Members Only section of our website where we’re gathering resources exclusively for our community as we go.

Two other tools will be coming your way soon: our Off-Site Heatmap and our Attainable Housing (for the Missing Middle) Roadmap. More information on the Roadmap is below.

ATTAINABILITY IN U.S. HOUSING ROADMAP: COMING SOON

Housing costs shouldn’t exceed 30% of household income, but most Americans are house poor—shilling out more than 40 percent of their take home pay each month. The story is the same for renters and buyers.

While low income housing is an issue as well, our focus is to crack the code on how to serve the missing middle—housing that addresses the needs of moderate income households. Over the next 5 years, the opportunity is about 1 million homes per year. Together, we can make a difference.

As an industry, we need to get creative to deliver the quality housing people need at the volume it’s needed and a price they can afford. It’s time for new thinking, new collaborative relationships and new solutions.

Through research, interviews, site visits, webinars and our live round table event in November, we’re creating the first draft for a roadmap that addresses the WHY, WHAT, and HOW of driving attainability in production housing; WHO the thought leaders are in this space; the INVESTMENT involved; the companies and products that are already achieving WINS in this area; and the RISKS that we shouldn’t ignore.

Our fall programming and this initial roadmap are part of a longer journey we’re on as an organization, which will continue to evolve with input from our community.
